History of the school

IGIHOZO Saint Peter Secondary School is a private mixed school of the Catholic Church located in the Catholic Diocese of Butare, Nyanza Parish. IGIHOZO Saint Peter was founded after the Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in 1994 by the Catholic Diocese of Butare in collaboration with Mrs. Marie Claire BAHATI WIESENHOFER from Nyanza where the school is built.

They gathered children scattered here and there to train them in different trades, namely sewing, carpentry, construction and cooking. In 1999 we changed this technical school into a secondary school and we began to seek approval from the Ministry of Education. In 2000 the school received the approval of the ministry and changed its name to IGIHOZO Saint Peter Secondary School with 62 students.

Today the number of students is 872 for our school with the capacity to accommodate 950 students. Our establishment has the first cycle (Ordinary Level) and the Superior cycle (Advanced Level) with which correspond to the secondary school and high school. We have four following sections: MEC (Mathematics, Economics and Computer), MPC (Mathematics, Physics and Computer) PCB (physics, Chemistry and Biology) and HGL (History, Geography and Literature)

The objective of IGIHOZO Saint Peter Secondary School is to instill in young people the thirst for research for quality training in order to provide well-trained young people to serve the nation. We offer all young people without distinction the same opportunities. We aim for excellence, innovation and a job well done.
